Project Goals

  • Replace a dated, hard to use kitchen with a beautifully modern, open, functional kitchen
  • Implement “aging in place” design concepts
  • Create a large, open space for easy entertaining without adding on additional square footage

How Goals Were Achieved

  • Removed walls separating kitchen, dining room and family room to form one large open area, updating entire living area of home
  • Left walk spaces large enough for easy mobility
  • Used drawers instead of base cabinets for easy accessibility
  • Set design theme using custom made rift sawn white oak cabinets
  • Placed skylight over island for added natural light
  • Combined different sources and types of artificial lighting for excellent illumination, and to add design accents and interest
  • Kept upper cabinets open through use of translucent resin polymer panels; creates beautiful effect, especially when cabinet interiors lit up at night
  • Placed appliances at convenient heights

Project Goals

  • Redo and update dark 80's style kitchen; make it open, airy, and bright
  • Replace oddly shaped island, which obstructed walk spaces, with new one which fits properly and provides seating for one
  • Leave adequate clearance around island
  • Implement “aging in place” design principles

How Goals Were Achieved

  • Island redesigned and properly placed with adequate clearance all around and seating for one
  • Used drawers or pull out shelves below countertops for accessibility
  • Rounded end of island for bar stool use
  • Updated and replaced flooring and all finishes to create modern, transitional style aesthetic
  • Provided for better stove ventilation

  • Gave existing cabinets a totally new look by replacing only existing doors and drawer fronts with sleek new maple ones
  • Used stone and glass tile mosaic extensively for design impact
  • Soffit removed; sleek island hood put in its place to open up and modernize kitchen and breakfast bar
  • Replaced and added new lighting for better energy efficiency and to add design elements and interest
  • Dated laminate countertops replaced with richly colored Caesarstone
